15 Day Book Blogger Challenge – Day 10

My friend, Jackie, from Bookworm Cafe posted her responses to this challenge during July, so it put it on my own radar. I decided to take it up for the month of August. The challenge originated, it appears, with Good Books & Good Wine, so credit for the prompts goes to them!ย

I honestly tend to go with my gut instinct on what I will read next. Sometimes I know that I have to read a certain book, if I have a review book. I normally don’t have review books so this doesn’t tend to be a problem for me. I keep my review books at a minimum for this reason. I tend to go to my book shelves and figure out what I want to read. Unless, I have something from the library checked out. I will gravitate towards those if I have some on my shelves. I like the library though because I can get things that maybe I am interested in reading in that moment and not sure I would want to purchase them. I find myself in the library more than I probably should be. It feels like a bookstore for me without the monetary issues that come with going into a bookstore. Sometimes I check out too much and then when it comes time to read the next book I realize I have no desire to read 3/4s of what I checked out. There usually will still be a few I want to read and that is what I will dwindle my reading pile down to. Right now I really want to dwindle books off my actual shelves. I have been wanting to do this for awhile though and I am hoping I can adhere to it. Find books that I actually own and read them so that I can start to purchase other books to replace what I have. There are books on my shelves that I don’t think I would keep, but still want to read once. If I just read them once, they would probably go find a new home. One that would probably love them more than me. I need a new system of choosing what next to read don’t it? ๐Ÿ˜‰ This flying by the seat of my pants thing is not working out very well at this point. I probably should try to do what I have been moving towards with the blog, which is starting to make a bit more of a schedule. Maybe even with my reading? That might work.ย

DO YOU HAVE A SYSTEM OF SELECTING YOUR NEXT READ? Let me know what it is in the comments!

I have some buddy reads that keep me on a schedule, which I thoroughly enjoy. Anything else, it’s all whimsy. Wherever the rabbit hole takes me next, that’s where I go. Could be intellectual curiosity, could be overwhelming enthusiasm, could just be that something seems fun in the moment.

I choose based on how I feel at the time. I often have several books on the go at the same time. I tried making a list for the month back in May. I didn’t stick to it at all. I will read a review of a book then decide I want to read it next. If I get books from the library I am waiting for, i stick them in. So you see, there is no method that I stick to.
