15 Day Book Blogger Challenge – Day 9

My friend, Jackie, from Bookworm Cafe posted her responses to this challenge during July, so it put it on my own radar. I decided to take it up for the month of August. The challenge originated, it appears, with Good Books & Good Wine, so credit for the prompts goes to them!

TODAY’S PROMPT: WHY DO YOU BLOG ABOUT BOOKS?

I blog about books because I wasn’t allowed to read when I was growing up. If you need more on that just read any of the “Oversharing” posts on here and you will understand why books were not something that I was able to have around as much as others may have been able to. I wanted to read more though. I wanted access to them. I wanted to be able to read them so badly, but I just did not have the time between trying to survive. I kept that love of books though, somehow through everything I have dealt with. Part of my life was not having a voice to say what my opinions where. It was easier not to have an opinion. It made me safer, but as I moved away from those horrible situations I realized I had no voice. I couldn’t talk about almost anything. I didn’t know what I enjoyed and didn’t. I wanted to be able to talk about things that I liked and books were one of those things. I decided to see if there was a book blogging community at all and I discovered that there was. I have been doing off and on blogging for years now. This is the longest stretch though and I feel like I am going to stick around. I like having the outlet to express my opinion on things that I like. This is why, however, why I don’t just stick to books any more on my blog. I want to learn to be able to talk about a multitude of likes. I want to develop my own voice and that started because of learning that I was allowed to share my opinions on books. I didn’t have to like what everyone else was reading. I could express that and it has helped me greatly. I feel like I was a wilted flower that finally got some darn water. Now I am starting to come back to life and it is thanks to the book blogging community.

IF YOU BLOG ABOUT BOOKS, WHY DO YOU BLOG ABOUT THEM? Let me know why in the comments!

I read your oversharing post before, and I still have a hard time wrapping myself around the idea of not being allowed to read. I’m so glad you were able to find your voice and the joy of the written word. *hugs* For myself, I blog about books for the reason that books were the ever-reliable friends and gateways to other worlds for my entire life. They gave me access to so much more than my own limitations. And, well, it’s human nature to want to share the adventure.

Books being a gateway to another world is why I love them now. I love seeing these other worlds that authors create. Being transported to them is so enjoyable. I am glad that I found the opportunity as an adult to be engrossed in a good book, but yeah it is hard sometimes to wrap my own head around not being allowed to read and I was the one that had it happen to them. Thanks for commenting as always Emily! 🙂

I am as well. It feels nice to fall in love with each book I read for their own reasons now as an adult. Thanks for visiting Tasha!

Your post is beautiful and much more poignant than anything I could share about why I blog, but I do want to share this. I blog because I get to meet people like you, with hearts like yours, who love books as much as I do, and all have different stories to tell. That’s why I blog. 😊 ♥️
